What Is Aerial Yoga?

Aerial yoga is a practice that incorporates an aerial hammock (also referred to as silks or swing) to enhance a floor-based yoga practice, and adds the elements of suspension and decompression. The hammock provides support to the yoga practitioner so that they can perform poses that are normally difficult to accomplish, like back bends and inversions; the result is an innovative and challenging total body workout.

Aerial yoga is safe inversion therapy with zero compression on the spine! Hanging upside down decompresses the vertebrate of your spine from the long-term effects of gravity. It will help create space between your vertebral discs for the nerves of your spinal cord. Realign and open up your physical body by using gravity!

You do not need to be a circus star, lifelong yogi, or natural-born acrobat to come play! Students of all levels will build strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, coordination, and body awareness as you learn to flip, fly, and flow through aerial yoga sequences. Give yourself much deeper stretches, full back extensions, and the freedom and fun of aerial.

There are some serious health benefits associated with Aerial Yoga. ‘Anyone that has back issues should be doing this class,‘ says Bill Davis, director of group fitness for The Athletic Club in Brantford, Ont. ‘It’s better than an inversion table. It gives you the chance to hang freely, allowing your spine to lengthen. People who have taken the class here always comment on how much better their back feels afterward.’

Have trouble staying focused?  Ready to enhance your performance in a natural way?  When you turn upside down in aerial yoga, you increase blood flow to the head & increases the production of mood-boosting neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin. Dopamine plays a number of roles in physical and mental health: Dopamine deficiency is associated with attention deficient disorder, Parkinson’s disease, depression and substance abuse. It also increases blood flow to the kidneys and helps maintain proper kidney function. These reads will help you explore using inversions in the case of adhd and anxiety.

Hormonal imblanaces can cause everything from depression and anxiety to diabetes and cancer. Before you go anywhere else, learn why getting upside down may be the easiest and best thing you can do to balance your hormones.

Aerial Yoga
Aerial Yoga...just for fun of it!
Aerial Yoga...for strength & flexibility
Aerial Yoga...for your health
In an Aerial Yoga class, students use both the hammock and the floor to immediately feel the improvement in their flexibility, strength and alignment, and to understand how to use the skills and benefits achieved through using the hammock while attending non-aerial Yoga classes and other physical activities.

The Aerial Yoga technique achieves more than a simple stretch. Our physical posture changes over time to increase our flexibility, develop strength, and forge deep, full breathing. Deep breathing reinforces a calm and serene attitude, which in turn increases our mental flexibility as well – the purpose of practicing Yoga.

It’s always fun to feel like a beginner again, and Aerial yoga gives you the opportunity to experiment with your practice by adding new twists to old favorites.

In addition, Aerial Yoga gives you the freedom to explore, relax, and play with your practice or workout, exactly like you are a kid in a swing again.

Flexibility work is the perfect supplement to your aerial training plan.  Whether you are brand new to aerial or old school, this class will take your aerial skills to the next level.
